Summer School Day 12

- Timed Readings 6 and 7

Continue to read Act IV from King Lear.



- Answer the following questions from Act IV in the existing document "Lear Questions":

1. Why would Gloucester prefer to be led by the madman (Edgar) rather than by a faithful retainer? (IV, i)
2. How does Goneril compound her sins against her family? (IV, ii)
3. How does Albany perceive his wife? (IV, ii)
4. Why is it natural that Lear would not wish to see his daughter Cordelia? (IV, iii)
5. How does Regan compound her sins against her family? (IV, v)
6. How does Edgar begin the process of righting the unnatural events that have occurred? (IV, vi)
7. How does Cordelia react to her father’s words? (IV, vii)


- Answer the following questions in a 500 word response using evidence from the text, your experiences, and the real world. Create a google doc called "Things Carried" and share it with me.

- Literally speaking, why were the things they carried important? Elaborate and give examples from the text.
- Figuratively speaking, why other things did these men carry? Elaborate and give examples from the text.
- Please provide at least THREE quotations from the text that support your answers.
- If you were to shipped out to war as a soldier and you had one bag to bring, what would you pack it with?  Explain at least 15 items you'd bring with you.  Something should have symbolic meaning as well.





3) Research paper 2: How does war affect the human mind?

Title a new google document, "PTSD" and share it with me.

  • Are there examples of PTSD or traumatic experiences in The Things They Carried or Restrepo?
How to write your paper:

- Break your paper up into different sections
Section 1: Introduction into the topic
Section 2: Defining PTSD and a brief history
Section 3: Example 1
Section 4: Example 2
Section 5: Example 3
Section 6: Conclusion (summary of main points)

Requirements:
  • MLA format 
  • 1250 words minimum
  • 5 quotations in your paper 
  • Works Cited page with at least 2 sources 
  • Spelling and grammar (10 pts)
  • Due on Friday, July 25 at the end of the day.
