Summer School Day 9

1) Complete reading King Lear Act II.  Open your existing document, "Lear Questions" and continue at the end of Act I questions.

- Timed Readings: 3x Timed Readings:

- Answer the following questions from Act II:

  1. How does Edmund make himself appear to be the better son in Gloucester’s eyes? (II, i)
  2. Why should the reader not be surprised at Regan’s decision to side with her sister rather than her father? (II, ii)
  3. List and discuss Edgar’s reasons for playing the part of Poor Tom. (II, iii)
  4. How do Goneril and Regan assert power over their father, thus driving him into a raging storm? (II, iv) 



    Travel Informational Article Assignment


    • You will use this site as a template for writing an informative text detailing 36 hours in a specific location.


    3) Your assignment: 
    1. Create a new document within google called, "36 Hours last name"
    2. Pick a location that you are familiar with OR research a location that you might find fun to write about. (I.E. Bergen County, Seaside, Wildwood, NYC, etc).
    3. Begin with an introductory paragraph, describing the location so the reader has a general sense of the location.
    4. Then break up your writing into the day, time, and a witty title just like the NY Times does. Your sections may include but are not limited to the following activities:
      • Meals (breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, late night food)
      • Parks
      • Amusement parks
      • Sight-seeing
      • Sports-venues
    5. In each section, explain, in detail, what the traveler will be doing, how to properly experience it, information about the venue such as phone numbers, addresses, or directions, and any advice.
    6. Include pictures in your column just like the article does to liven your article.   
    7. Here are your sections (you may adjust these times accordingly):
      • Friday, 6:00 pm (Dinner)
      • Saturday, 8:00 am (Breakfast)
      • Saturday, 12:00 pm (Lunch)
      • Saturday, 3:00 pm (Activity)
      • Saturday, 7:00 pm (Dinner)
      • Saturday, 10:00 pm (Activity)
      • Sunday, 9:00 am (Brunch)
    Grading:
    • Do not use the MLA format
    • Introduction with general information about the location: 10 pts
    • 7 sections with enough information to entice a traveler to include:
      • name of the location
      • location
      • website links
      • what to do at the location
      • if it's a restaurant, suggestions for food or drink
      • cost
      • 35 pts
    • At least 5 photos: 10 pts
    • Grammar, punctuation, mechanics: 10 pts
    • At least 2 full pages double spaced, Times New Roman, size 12: 10 pts
    • Total 75 pts 
    • Due on Friday, July 18 at the beginning of the class.
